Following on from Margot’s session, I tried out a couple of very simple language games and surprise, they worked beautifully. I know that many others have done the same. Can I suggest that our AGM PD focus on “Simple language games that work.” You might not want to share all your tricks and games but if everyone can come prepared to share some simple games with whatever resources you need, that would be wonderful.
We will actually play the games as our class does so that we can get a feel for how it all comes together.

2.30-3.30pm How to keep your retention rate high? This workshop is presented by Huijuan Wu from Kedron SH. Huijuan has the marvellous retention rates of 100% from Year 8 to Year 9 ; 94% from Year 9 to Year 10; and  100% from Year 10 to Year 11 in 2018. Learn from her wonderful experience. There will be time for discussion and sharing after the presentation.
 
Teachers’ resources sharing is warmly welcomed. I can print them out for you if you can email them to me one week before the AGM day.
 
3.30pm onwards    Networking and Chinese New Year celebration

CLTAQ PD

Our main focus is on the younger year levels but we know the C2C materials cover a wide range of year levels. .

Presenters:  Mylan Warren and Wendy Tai

Purpose:  To continue exploration and analysis of C2C units of work.

Objective:  Mylan and Wendy will help unpack some of the Chinese C2C materials and explain the processes behind their structure. They will also align the units with ACARA, looking at templates and checklists.
Most importantly, Mylan and Wendy will show how a unit is constructed, meeting all the strands and sub-strands and discuss the reasonings behind the pillars of ACARA.

Please bring along:  Hard copies of units that you have downloaded so that we can have more concrete discussions.

Teacher Awards and End of Year Celebration, 2016

The Confucius Institute at QUT (CIQ) and the Chinese Language Teachers’ Association of Queensland Inc (CLTAQ) annually recognise the excellence of teachers of Chinese in Queensland schools, through Teacher Awards. These awards are for 2016 registered full time school teachers of Chinese language, teaching in Queensland only. 
 
The awards, from three categories, will be presented on Saturday, 19 November 2016, at an end of year celebration of Chinese teaching in Queensland schools held at the CIQ Offices at Kelvin Grove Campus of QUT.  The event is also a networking and social opportunity for the teachers of Chinese. Award recipients must be present at the end of year celebration event to receive a prize.

Chinese Speaking Competition and Chinese Bridge Competition

Attached are the information packages of Chinese Speech Competition on Saturday, the 30th of May 2015.

Please note that the Chinese Speaking Competition is for students of Years 5 to 12. It is similar to the previous year's competition. It will be in the afternoon on the 30th of May. See more details in the attachment.

The Chinese Bridge Competition is for students aged 15 to 20. It will be in the morning on the 30th  of May.  Please see more details in the attachment.

So some students may take part in both and win more prizes.

3.00-3.40pm       The PD workshop 2: Rapping up 2015 by Kay Bence. Participants will relook at the value of writing raps as a tool for learning language, grammar as well as having fun. We will discuss what makes a good rap and then form into groups to create a number of raps based on topics teachers will be covering in term 1.

PD: Preparation for National Curriculum
Sunday 27 July, 2014, 1.30pm to 3.30pm

1.        Each teacher should bring their course overviews/unit plans or whatever paperwork you use for all of the units of work you cover in your P-10 course. 

2.       Each teacher should bring hard or soft copy of the NC documents.

3.       Each group work though the content descriptors and elaborations specifically focusing on what is there that is already covered in our courses and make notes on the NC and also course outlines

4.       Each group highlight/make notes of things that we need to cover as specific PD for the future (bearing in mind that we do not really know what PD QSA will have up their sleeve.)

This might also be useful information for Confucius Institute and QSA for PD directions.

5.       Each group highlight/make notes of additional resources that we will need to implement certain aspects of the NC.

6.       In the last 30 minutes we have a collective discussion about what has been identified etc.
